Rehabilitation of the Matadi-Kinshasa railway: an urgent necessity for the Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo faces a crucial challenge in the rehabilitation and modernization of the railway line linking Matadi to Kinshasa. This railway, operated by the Congolese Transport and Port Company (SCPT), is currently dilapidated and obsolete, requiring significant financial investments for its rehabilitation.

However, despite the existence of memorandums of understanding signed with the government and the SCPT in collaboration with a private partner, little progress has been made so far. This led the President of the Republic to instruct the Minister of State, Minister of Portfolio, as well as the Minister of Transport and Communications, to take charge of this matter and quickly reach a public-private partnership project in order to to start the rehabilitation of this railway line.
This issue had already been addressed during the 82nd meeting of the Council of Ministers in January 2023, where the government presented a project aimed at finding appropriate solutions for this rehabilitation.
The rehabilitation of the Matadi-Kinshasa railway line is of capital importance for the development of the country.
