“Ishasha: insecurity persists, the population demands urgent measures”

Insecurity persists in the town of Ishasha, located approximately 130 kilometers north of Goma, in the Binza groupement, Rutshuru territory. Despite the presence of the regular army, the local population has to face acts of violence perpetrated by self-defense groups nicknamed the “Wazalendu” as well as by the FDLR rebels.

According to consistent sources, the inhabitants of Ishasha are victims of looting, kidnappings, harassment and repeated nighttime incursions by these armed groups. Recently, around ten houses were looted, leading to the disappearance of valuable property. Even kiosks and a savings bank have suffered acts of vandalism.

The situation is all the more worrying as the “Wazalendu” have erected more than eight barriers on the Kiseguru – Iihada section, forcing passers-by to pay an illegal tax of 1,000 Congolese francs. The abuses committed by these uncontrollable militias create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the civilian populations, who have already suffered greatly from the consequences of the war.

Faced with this alarming situation, the notables of Rutshuru are calling on the Congolese government to take urgent measures to identify and take charge of these self-defense groups. It is essential to guarantee the safety of the inhabitants of Ishasha and to put an end to their cycle of violence and precariousness.

It is regrettable to note that despite the control of the area by the regular army, these armed groups manage to maintain their hold on the population. It is therefore essential to strengthen the military presence and put in place effective strategies to combat these recurring criminal acts.

In conclusion, insecurity persists in the city of Ishasha, with self-defense groups and FDLR rebels continuing to sow terror among the population. It is essential that the Congolese government intervene quickly to protect the inhabitants of Ishasha and put an end to this violence. Peace and security are essential prerequisites for the development and well-being of the Congolese population.
