News: The 2024 draft budget in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde recently presented the 2024 draft budget in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This budget amounts to 40,463 billion Congolese francs, an increase of 24% compared to the previous budget year.

The government is paying particular attention to certain key sectors. First of all, defense will benefit from a greater allocation of resources in order to meet the country’s security requirements. Then, the health sector will be strengthened to cope with the pressure of Universal Health Coverage, including free maternity and post-partum follow-up. In addition, the government will continue to support free primary education, in accordance with its commitments.

Furthermore, the government is committed to continuing reforms and mobilizing additional resources to support the diversification of the national economy. Significant investments will thus be allocated to agriculture, fishing, livestock and industry. Special economic zones will also be created to boost the sector.

Local development is also a priority, with the Local Development Program of 145 territories (PDL-145T). Investments in agricultural service roads will be made to stimulate the rural sector.

Furthermore, the government is committed to modernizing its public administration, improving the salary conditions of civil servants and controlling the wage bill. Scientific research will also receive special attention, with an allocation of 3% of the total budget.
