“The tragic assassination of Chérubin Okende, Congolese MP: a hard blow for politics and an ongoing investigation”

Today, we would like to provide you with additional information on an important current topic. This is Chérubin Okende, national deputy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who was tragically assassinated two months ago in circumstances that are still unclear.

Chérubin Okende was a pillar of the current legislature, known for his numerous parliamentary initiatives. Aged 61, he also held the position of Minister of Transport and Communications and was the spokesperson for the political party Ensemble pour la République.

In tribute to Chérubin Okende, the National Assembly placed a photo of the deputy as well as a bouquet of flowers in his usual seat in the hemicycle of the People’s Palace. Each national deputy bowed in front of this photo to salute his memory.

The autopsy has already been carried out in order to determine the exact circumstances of his assassination and to find the perpetrators of this heinous crime. The investigation is still ongoing at the military justice level.
