“The humanitarian tragedy of those displaced by the Mbole-Lengola conflict in Kisangani: deplorable living conditions requiring urgent intervention”

The poor living conditions of those displaced by the Mbole-Lengola intercommunity conflict in Konga-Konga in Kisangani constitute a human tragedy. Since last May, no less than 25 people have lost their lives in these difficult circumstances. Fleeing insecurity in the commune of Lubunga, the displaced people who migrated to this site face a precarious life and a lack of support.

According to testimonies collected, some displaced people are forced to beg to survive, while others find work in households neighboring the camp to feed themselves. These extreme conditions have led to an increase in cases of malnutrition, particularly among children, with 19 deaths already recorded since the start of the displacements last May.

The alarming situation was confirmed by the mayor of the commune of Kisangani, Jupson Bokenzi Liele, who however emphasizes that the exact causes of these deaths remain to be determined.

The land conflict between the Mbole and Lengola communities began last April and has already caused numerous victims. Clashes intensified, pushing more and more people to flee the violence and seek refuge in Kisangani and Lubunga. The number of displaced people is estimated at more than 14,000 people.

It is therefore urgent to take measures to improve the living conditions of these displaced people. This means providing adequate humanitarian assistance, including medical care and sufficient nutrition, to prevent further deaths and combat malnutrition among children.

It is also essential to resolve the intercommunity conflict which is at the origin of this serious situation. Effective mediation and the search for peaceful solutions are necessary to guarantee a safe and dignified return of displaced people to their communities of origin.

In conclusion, it is essential to pay urgent attention to the poor living conditions of those displaced by the Mbole-Lengola intercommunity conflict in Kisangani. The precariousness, lack of support and resulting deaths are a true human tragedy that requires rapid and effective intervention to protect the lives and dignity of displaced people.
