The Alliance for Democratic Change in 2026: putting Congo back on the path to democracy and prosperity

The Alliance for Democratic Change in 2026 (2AD2026): a proposal to get the Congo out of the political and economic doldrums

In the Congolese political landscape, a new voice is being heard: the Alliance for Democratic Alternation in 2026 (2AD2026). This platform, bringing together three opposition groups, hosted a press conference in Brazzaville to present its vision of a democratic transition aimed at putting the country back on track.

Destin Gavet, president of this alliance, made a clear observation: the Congo is plunged into political and economic stagnation. According to him, fundamental freedoms are confiscated, the economy remains dependent on aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and inflation is constantly increasing. The situation is described as chaotic, with a corrupt elite dominating a hungry people.

Rather than resorting to extreme solutions, the Alliance proposes a transition that would overhaul current institutions, deemed illegitimate due to recurring electoral fraud. Destin Gavet thus wishes to reach out to President Sassou in order to begin a two-year democratic transition process, leading to an election in which the outgoing president would not participate.

This proposal is not new, since it had already been put forward by opponents on the eve of the 2021 presidential election. However, the ruling party, the PCT, did not wish to comment on these statements.

This approach by the Alliance for Democratic Change in 2026 marks a desire for peaceful and democratic change in Congo. It raises essential questions about the state of political and economic governance in the country and proposes concrete solutions to emerge from the current crisis.

It is crucial to closely monitor the evolution of this political initiative and to see if it succeeds in further mobilizing public opinion and political actors to establish a true democratic transition in Congo. The response to these issues will determine the future of the country and its citizens.
