Goma in the DRC: A deputy’s request for explanations regarding the tragic events and the violence perpetrated

The recent tragic events in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, have caused great emotion both locally and globally. Gratien MP from Saint-Nicolas Iracan sent a request to Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde in order to shed light on these massacres and to ask for explanations on the reasons which led to such violence.

In his letter, the MP refers to videos which have circulated showing Congolese victims of massacres committed by elements of the police. It also highlights the attacks perpetrated against a church and a religious radio station. The government delegation went there to assess the situation, but the MP wants to obtain precise information on what really happened on August 30.

These events follow a demonstration organized by the Uwezo wa Neno/Wazalendo messianic sect, which protested in particular against the presence of MONUSCO and the EAC force in the DRC. The violence that broke out during this demonstration resulted in numerous victims, and Military Justice is already carrying out investigations to identify those responsible.

It is important to emphasize that the request for explanations from MP Gratien of Saint-Nicolas Iracan is legitimate and reflects the concern of the Congolese population and the international community in the face of these tragic events. Transparency and justice are essential to prevent such massacres in the future and to guarantee the safety of citizens.

It is also crucial that light be shed on the reasons which may have led to such violence, in order to put in place conflict prevention and resolution measures which will bring stability to the Goma region.

In conclusion, it is essential that the Congolese authorities respond transparently to the questions raised by MP Gratien of Saint-Nicolas Iracan and provide all the necessary information on the tragic events that occurred in Goma. Justice must be served and measures must be taken to prevent further massacres and promote peace and security in the region. The international community must also remain mobilized to support efforts to address this crisis and guarantee the protection of human rights in the DRC.
