“Genocost: commemorate the victims of sexual violence linked to conflicts in the DRC for a future of justice and solidarity”

The commemoration of the national day of tribute to victims of conflict-related sexual violence, called “Genocost”, is an important event in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Organized by the National Fund for Reparations for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes Against the Peace and Security of Humanity (FONAREV), this day aims to pay tribute and honor the victims of these atrocities, as well as as the people who provided them with assistance.

In a press release, FONAREV calls for the mobilization of national and international opinion to participate in this commemoration. He encourages all Congolese to come together as a sign of national solidarity and invites everyone to contribute to a real change in the course of the country’s history.

To mark this day, places of collective commemoration have been planned, such as the Place des Évolués in Gombe, the Victoire roundabout in the commune of Kalamu, and the reinforced concrete wall in the commune of Mont-ngafula. In addition, an official ceremony will be held at the OAU city.

FONAREV underlines the importance of the institutionalization of this annual commemoration day, which aims to support the victims and build a more united and equitable future for the Congolese nation. FONAREV is an institutional framework dedicated to reparations for victims, in accordance with the laws in force in the DRC.

This commemoration is a poignant reminder of the reality of sexual violence linked to conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It highlights the need to fight these crimes and work to build a more just and peaceful society for all.

By participating in this commemoration and supporting the victims, each individual has the opportunity to contribute to meaningful and lasting change in the country. “Genocost” day is therefore an opportunity to come together, remember and act together for a better future.
