Title: Senior magistrates take an oath before President Félix Tshisekedi: a step towards better justice in the DRC
Introduction :
On September 15, 69 senior magistrates from the Court of Cassation, the Council of State and the general public prosecutor’s offices took an oath before the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi, thus marking a turning point in the judicial system of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In this article, we will return to this major event which follows the dismissal of several magistrates for serious misconduct and which testifies to President Tshisekedi’s desire to make justice more transparent and efficient in the country.
The oath of senior magistrates:
During the ceremony which took place at the Palais de la Nation in Kinshasa, the senior magistrates took an oath before President Félix Tshisekedi, thus committing to respect the Constitution and the laws of the DRC, and to fulfill their functions with honor and dignity. This swearing-in marks their official entry into office within the country’s judicial system.
A courageous decision by President Tshisekedi:
This swearing-in ceremony follows the dismissal, on August 28, of several magistrates for serious misconduct such as forgery and rape of a minor. President Tshisekedi took this courageous decision with the aim of purging the judicial system of people who have committed reprehensible acts, in order to establish healthier and more equitable justice.
A desire to reform the judicial system:
President Tshisekedi had already expressed his dissatisfaction with the functioning of the DRC’s judicial system. He had promised to implement reforms to improve the judicial system and guarantee the independence of justice in the country.
The swearing-in of senior magistrates is part of this desire for reform and represents a significant step forward towards more transparent, more efficient justice and more respectful of the rights of Congolese citizens.
Conclusion :
The swearing-in of senior magistrates before President Félix Tshisekedi represents an important step towards better justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By dismissing magistrates who have committed serious misconduct and by appointing new senior magistrates ready to respect the Constitution and the laws of the country, President Tshisekedi shows his determination to establish fairer and more transparent justice.
There is still work to be done to fundamentally reform the DRC’s judicial system, but this swearing-in ceremony marks a turning point in this process and suggests a better future for Congolese justice.
