Arbitrary arrest of a Congolese journalist: Ensemble pour la République demands his immediate and unconditional release

Stany Bujakera, Congolese journalist, deputy publishing director of ACTUALITE.CD, finds himself at the center of attention following his arbitrary arrest at Ndjili international airport. This sad news sparked a strong reaction from the political party Ensemble pour la République, which strongly condemned this action and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

In a statement, the opposition party led by Moïse Katumbi affirms that Stany Bujakera is known for his commitment to transparency, pluralism of opinions and the truth in his work as a journalist. The party insists that journalists who respect the truth deserve the respect, consideration and protection of Congolese society.

Recalling the importance of freedom of opinion and expression, enshrined in article 23 of the constitution, Ensemble pour la République calls for all-out mobilization to obtain the release of Stany Bujakera. For them, his arrest constitutes a new attack against democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, an attempt to suppress the country’s democratic achievements.

Stany Bujakera, who worked as a correspondent for Jeune Afrique, was placed under provisional arrest warrant after being detained for three days by the security services. His arrest sparked outrage in the media, and there were widespread calls for his release.

This case highlights the difficulties encountered by Congolese journalists in the exercise of their profession. Press freedom is often threatened and many journalists face intimidation, arbitrary arrests and violence. It is essential to ensure an environment conducive to freedom of expression and to allow journalists to do their work safely.

In conclusion, the arrest of Stany Bujakera is a sad illustration of the challenges faced by Congolese journalists. It is essential that the international community, human rights organizations and governments continue to support press freedom in the Democratic Republic of Congo and call for the release of all journalists unjustly detained. The voice of journalists must be heard and respected in order to preserve democracy and freedom of expression in the country.
