Temporary suspension of Congo Airways flights for maintenance of its aircraft
In a recent interview with Top Congo FM, José Dubier Lueya, general director of Congo Airways, announced the temporary suspension of the activities of the national airline. This decision is motivated by the need to carry out maintenance operations on three aircraft in the fleet.
According to José Dubier Lueya, two Airbus A320s and two Dash 8 Q400s are currently part of the Congo Airways fleet. One of the Airbus A320s is grounded for technical reasons, while the second is undergoing maintenance in Malta, where work is being carried out on the aircraft’s landing gear and structure.
To quickly rehabilitate the national airline, an amount of 14 million US dollars would be required to purchase replacement engines for each aircraft, and a total of 33 million US dollars to completely restart the three aircraft under maintenance.
Despite this temporary suspension, the general director of Congo Airways remains optimistic about the future of the company. He expresses his desire to make Congo Airways an internationally renowned company, with flights to destinations such as Dubai, Europe and Africa.
This decision to temporarily suspend flights is taken in order to guarantee the safety of passengers, in accordance with IATA standards of which Congo Airways is a member, and taking into account the company’s IOSA certifications.
The reorganization of Congo Airways operations will begin on September 11, 2023, with the aim of ensuring greater efficiency and maintaining the quality of services offered.
