“Catastrophic earthquake in Morocco: the sad reality of devastation and the urgent call for solidarity”

The earthquake that struck part of Morocco left behind images of destruction and immense sadness for the affected population. Villages and hamlets have been devastated, leaving behind urgent needs for food, blankets, tents and water.

In the town of Ljoukak, scenes of desolation follow one another. Houses and shops are on the ground, and an intense smell of corpses hangs in the air. The Tarabesse district, wiped off the map, is in mourning because all the families have been affected. Emergency services have been working for more than 48 hours to find possible survivors, armed with shovels, picks and detectors, but for the moment, their efforts are in vain.

In the neighborhood, a man named Shahid, who came to help the firefighters, cannot hold back his tears. He describes helping pull a woman’s body from the rubble, expressing sadness and asking for prayers for the tragic situation they find themselves in.

Rescuers continue their search tirelessly, but the sad reality is that many dead bodies have been extracted from the rubble. House after house, they searched through the rubble looking for survivors, but so far, there was no sign of hope.

The Tinmel mosque, which dates from the 12th century and is five kilometers from the epicenter, also suffered damage. Its minaret has collapsed, and the road leading to it is strewn with stones rolled down from the cliffs. Some less populated areas appear less affected, but mountain villages are completely empty, as if residents had been forced to leave their homes in search of help and support.

The situation is catastrophic and requires urgent assistance. Mountain dwellers are the most affected and need support. It is time to act and help Morocco.

This poignant testimony and the devastating images of the earthquake in Morocco remind us of the importance of solidarity and aid in the event of natural disasters. It is essential to support the affected populations and contribute to reconstruction efforts, in order to help them recover from this tragedy.
