Title: Judo sports center inaugurated in Kinshasa by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ambassador of Japan to the DRC
Introduction :
On September 9, 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Peter Kazadi, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Minami Hiro, jointly inaugurated the brand new Center judo athlete in Kinshasa. This project, funded by the Japanese Government to the tune of thirteen million US dollars, is part of the “Sport for Tomorrow” initiative aimed at promoting sports around the world.
A multi-purpose sports center:
With a capacity of 800 seats, this sports center is much more than a simple judo facility. It offers a meeting and practice space for the civilian population and the police, thus promoting peaceful cohabitation between the different actors of Congolese society. In addition to judo, it will also host other disciplines such as karate, basketball and volleyball, providing development and coaching opportunities for young people.
The importance of peace and partnership:
In his speech at the inauguration, Ambassador Minami Hiro highlighted the two major objectives of this sports complex. First of all, it aims to contribute to the consolidation of peace by promoting collaboration between the national police and the Congolese population. During this crucial election period, it is crucial to have a professional and responsible police force to ensure the maintenance of public order. In addition, this center promotes the partnership between Japan and the DRC, thus strengthening ties between the two countries.
Continued support from Japan to the DRC:
It should be noted that Japan already provides significant support to the Congolese National Police, particularly through projects to professionalize and strengthen community policing activities. The construction of this sports center is part of this desire to promote the development and well-being of the Congolese population.
Conclusion :
The inauguration of the Judo Sports Center in Kinshasa marks an important step in the promotion of sports and peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This project funded by Japan demonstrates the country’s continued commitment to supporting the DRC in its development. By providing a meeting and practice space for the civilian population and the police, this sports center will promote social harmony and collaboration between the different stakeholders in Congolese society.
