“Strike of health professionals in Kasai-Oriental: a critical situation that threatens the population”

Health professionals in Kasai-Oriental province recently organized a general strike at the Kansele referral hospital. The sector’s unions, the Dynamique Syndicale du Congo (DYSYCO) and the National Union of Executives and Agents of the Service Sectors (SYNCASS), evaluated this strike during an evaluation meeting.

According to Marcel Ilunga, provincial secretary of DYSYCO, the strike was widely observed in all health zones of the province, with the exception of a few structures where a minimum service was put in place. Health professionals said the strike will continue until it is called off by the top hierarchy in Kinshasa.

Unfortunately, the consequences of this strike are already being felt locally. Cases of death have been reported in some health zones and the sick are left without assistance. This situation highlights the importance of health professionals and the dramatic consequences that a strike can have on the population.

It is essential to find a solution to this conflict and respond to the demands of health professionals. Their role is crucial in society, especially in times of health crisis. Better recognition of their work and improvement of their working conditions are essential elements to guarantee the quality of health care.

Ultimately, it is essential to emphasize the importance of constructive dialogue between different actors in the health sector. Sustainable solutions can only be found through negotiation and mutual understanding. Let us hope that the authorities will take rapid measures to resolve this conflict and ensure adequate health care for the population of Kasai-Oriental.
