News in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Opening of the Office for receiving and processing candidacies for the presidential election

This Saturday, September 9 marks a key stage in the political life of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the opening of the Office for receiving and processing candidacies for the election of the President of the Republic. According to the electoral calendar, this office will be closed on October 8.

On this first day, three Congolese opposition candidates have already submitted their candidacy, including Constant Mutamba, presenting himself as a “republican” opposition candidate. Leaving the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), he made a remarkable statement: “Once elected President of the Republic, I will have the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, arrested to put an end to his expansionist desires. “is one of my priorities.”

Constant Mutamba promises to set up a special unit whose mission will be to restore peace in the east of the country, a region where armed conflict has been raging for years. He also denounces corruption and embezzlement, and says he wants to fight against economic and financial offenders.

The Republican opposition candidate “Rupture” also plans to create a special economic and financial prosecutor’s office, reporting directly to the President of the Republic, with the aim of tracking down and tracing the origin of each movable or real estate acquisition. He thus wishes to put an end to practices of corruption and mismanagement of state resources.

Finally, Constant Mutamba announces that once elected, he will launch the “ill-gotten gains” operation, aimed at recovering wealth illegally acquired by certain political leaders.

This strong statement from Constant Mutamba, among other candidates who have also submitted their candidacy, underlines the importance of these presidential elections for the future of the DRC. Congolese voters expect concrete changes and a renewal of the political class to emerge from the social, economic and political crisis that the country has been experiencing for many years.
