Lodja National Airport, located in the Sankuru province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is currently in an advanced state of disrepair, according to local reports. Civil society organizations in the region sent a memorandum to the President of the Republic to draw his attention to the critical situation at the airport.
According to the memorandum, the airport runway is no longer able to receive jumbo jets due to its degraded state. This situation paralyzes commercial activities in the province, in addition to making plane tickets excessively expensive. Civil society organizations condition their support for the President on the rehabilitation of Lodja airport by the end of his first five-year term.
Unfortunately, despite the signing of a rehabilitation contract between the Minister of Transport and the private company Adi-construct, no work has yet been undertaken on the ground, local sources indicate.
This situation is worrying, because Lodja airport plays an essential role in the economic development of the region. It is crucial that measures are taken quickly to rehabilitate this infrastructure and allow airport activities to resume.
The rehabilitation of Lodja airport will not only benefit the Sankuru province, but also the entire Democratic Republic of Congo. By improving airport infrastructure, we can encourage the growth of tourism, facilitate trade and contribute to the economic development of the country.
It is therefore essential that the authorities take this issue into account and implement concrete measures to rehabilitate Lodja national airport as quickly as possible. The support of the population and civil society organizations is there, all that remains is to take action.
