The News Blog – Infrastructure financed by SICOMINES SA delights the inhabitants of Goma and Bunia in DR Congo

Goma and Bunia, two towns in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have recently expressed their satisfaction with the acquisition of new infrastructure financed by Sino-Congolaise des Mines (SICOMINES SA). Residents were particularly pleased with the construction of two stadiums with a capacity of 10,000 seats each, which will be used for various sports and leisure activities.

In a recent interview, a resident of Bunia said: “We are extremely happy to receive this new stadium. Our sports activities will now take place in an ideal setting. We thank all those who have contributed to the realization of this huge project”.

The Deputy Director General of the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT), Jean-Claude Mido Mbuete, took the opportunity to raise awareness among the people of Bunia of the need to protect these new infrastructures. He said: “This stadium belongs to you, we ask you to preserve it. We have completed the first phase and we must now complete the second phase, which will include the construction of a fence, gatehouses and the development of the surroundings.” .

Similarly, Mr. Mbuete officially handed over the keys to the Goma stadium to the provincial authorities during an official ceremony. Underlining the importance of this project, he said: “We are officially handing over the keys of the Goma stadium to the Governor of North Kivu. Last year, we carried out the technical and provisional reception, and in March, we carried out the final acceptance of this same stadium”.

ACGT engineers are already at work, collecting the data needed to complete the second phase of these two stages. This will include the supply of electricity, the provision of parking lots, the construction of a boundary wall and the provision of an access road.

As part of the SICOMINES infrastructure project, the works are selected and established in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works. SICOMINES is in charge of the financing, the SISC of the construction, while the ACGT ensures the supervision and the quality of the works. The Agency for Steering, Coordination and Monitoring of Conventions (APSCC) is responsible for general coordination.

These new stadiums will considerably improve the population’s access to leisure activities and will offer young people a space where they can develop physically and psychologically. These infrastructures will also strengthen their ability to adapt and integrate within the community during group activities.

In conclusion, the acquisition of these new infrastructures financed by SICOMINES SA is a real boon for the inhabitants of Goma and Bunia in DR Congo.. These stadiums will offer new sports and leisure opportunities to the population, thus contributing to the improvement of their quality of life and their development.
