The new headquarters of the Constitutional Court of the Democratic Republic of Congo is under construction in the commune of Gombe, in Kinshasa. This project, funded by the Congolese government with the financial support of the UNDP, aims to provide modern workspaces for the highest judicial body in the country.
President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi tshilombo personally laid the first stone of this new building, signifying the importance he attaches to the efficient functioning of the Constitutional Court and to the exercise of his functions as a constitutional judge.
The architecture of the new seat of the Constitutional Court is distinguished by its pyramidal shape, which is inspired by the Nyragongo volcano, emblematic of the region. The architect explains that this choice aims to highlight the volcanic relief of the country while emphasizing the exceptional nature of the decisions taken by the Constitutional Court.
The building, spread over 4 floors, will include a large courtroom, offices and other workspaces necessary for the proper functioning of the institution. The construction work is expected to last approximately 10 months.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony, the President of the Constitutional Court, Dieudonné Kamuleta, expressed his gratitude to President Tshisekedi for his support and commitment to the institution. The Constitutional Court plays an essential role as a power of constitutional judge and its decisions are irrevocable.
This new seat will provide the Constitutional Court with modern and adapted infrastructures, thus promoting greater efficiency in the examination of constitutional cases.
