Title: PICAGL project partners validate the Annual Work Plan and Budget for the 2023-2024 financial year

Introduction :
During a workshop organized in Bukavu in South Kivu, the partners of the Integrated Agricultural Growth Project in the Great Lakes (PICAGL) validated the Annual Work Plan and Budget (PTBA) for the 2023- 2024. This plan, costed at USD 20,821,466.6, aims to support the development of agricultural value chains, cost-shared subsidy, regional integration and other components of the project. This validation will make it possible to catch up on the delay in the implementation of planned activities, consolidate the project’s achievements and guarantee its sustainability.

Development of agricultural value chains and cost-shared subsidies:
In the area of agriculture, the PICAGL project will focus on the establishment and management of primary multiplication fields of healthy cassava cuttings. It will also put in place sustainable marketing mechanisms for the agricultural products promoted by the project. Artificial insemination campaigns and capacity building for inseminators will also be carried out. In addition, subsidies will be provided to rice-growing households to intensify their production, in anticipation of the full commissioning of the hullers acquired by the project.

Regional integration and other project components:
The PICAGL project will pay particular attention to regional integration by facilitating trade between regions through the establishment of appropriate structures and mechanisms. It also plans to acquire equipment for the mechanization of rice cultivation, establish sustainable mechanisms for marketing agricultural products and improve fishing techniques. Subsidies will also be allocated to fish ponds to support the development of fish farming.

Consolidation of achievements and sustainability of the project:
In addition to activities supporting agricultural, livestock and fishery production, the PICAGL project will focus on capitalization and sustainability of achievements. Follow-ups will be carried out to assess the application and impact of the training and technologies provided to households. A strategy for gradual disengagement and sustainability of the project will also be developed to ensure continuity of the efforts undertaken.

Conclusion :
The validation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget of the PICAGL project for the 2023-2024 financial year will make it possible to boost the implementation of planned activities, strengthen the results already obtained and guarantee the sustainability of the project. Through this commitment, the project partners hope to contribute to agricultural growth in the Great Lakes region and to the improvement of the living conditions of rural populations
