“Restore the image of the Congolese national police: a strong desire”
The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Security of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Peter Kazadi, recently expressed his determination to restore the image of the Congolese national police. This statement was made during a broadcast on Top-Congo radio, where he outlined his vision for a more disciplined and better equipped police.
In his strategy to improve the image of the police, Peter Kazadi wishes to emphasize the re-education of elements of the police. It plans to recruit 13,000 new police officers, in order to strengthen the capacities and manpower of the police throughout the country. According to him, the budget for this recruitment is already available.
The Deputy Prime Minister also stresses the importance of continuous training for police officers. Many agents are currently following refresher courses in various training centres. This initiative aims to strengthen their skills and knowledge for better performance in the field.
In addition to training, Peter Kazadi also plans to equip the Congolese national police with new outfits. Tons of outfits have already been ordered and around 50 containers are on their way to Matadi. This initiative aims to give a more professional and modern image of the police, thus helping to improve public confidence in this institution.
The Deputy Prime Minister also welcomes the decline in urban banditry, commonly known as the “Kuluna phenomenon”, in Kinshasa. According to him, this is the result of the political will and the awareness of the police, as well as the implementation of effective preventive and repressive measures.
In conclusion, Peter Kazadi’s stated desire to restore the image of the Congolese national police is an important step towards a more professional, disciplined police force at the service of the population. The measures envisaged, such as the recruitment of new police officers, continuous training and the improvement of equipment, will help to strengthen the capacities of the police and increase public confidence in this institution essential for security and stability
