Budget 2024: What are the government’s priorities for the coming budget year?

During the recent meeting of the Council of Ministers, the government of the Republic adopted the finance bill for the 2024 financial year. significant increase of 24.7% compared to that of 2023.

The Minister of State in charge of the Budget, Aimé Boji, presented this budget, which aims to be balanced in terms of revenue and expenditure for the entire general budget, additional budgets and special accounts.

What is particularly notable in this budget is the focus on investment. Indeed, there is an increase of 55.6% in credits allocated to this sector compared to the previous year. An increase of 49.6% is also planned for the general budget of 2023.

The government also wants to strengthen the defense and security sectors by allocating additional funds and creating a special allocation account dedicated to the support and development of the FARDC.

But the 2024 budget is not limited to economic and security aspects. It also provides for measures to meet social demands and improve the living conditions of the population. Among these measures, we find the gradual implementation of universal health coverage, support for sexual victims, as well as the continuation of the policy of free primary education.

It is interesting to note that despite the recent turmoil in the goods and services markets, the government has drafted this Finance Bill on the assumption of sustained growth of 6.4% and an average annual inflation of 10.9%. . These measures were taken to stabilize the macroeconomic framework and ensure the proper management of allocated funds.

This finance bill will be tabled in the National Assembly no later than September 15, which will mark the start of the parliamentary session. The elected officials will then have the opportunity to examine the budget and to propose any modifications.
