“New generation: Congolese youth mobilize to defend their rights in the face of the controversial decision of the CENI”

The New Generation: together to defend the rights of young Congolese

The decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to organize the election of municipal councilors only in the provincial capitals provoked a strong reaction from the New Generation, a platform bringing together several associations of young people in Democratic Republic of Congo.

During a press conference held in Kinshasa, the president of the New Generation, Totoro Mukenge, expressed the consternation of Congolese youth at this decision which limits the opportunity for young people to access the management of the thing public and to contribute to the development of the country. According to him, the majority of the Congolese population lives in villages and rural communities, and it is precisely in these areas that young people wish to present themselves to participate actively in political and public life.

This decision by the CENI is seen as a flagrant violation of the Constitution and the electoral law, thus depriving young people of their legitimate right to participate in the management of power at all levels. Totoro Mukenge recalled the importance of respecting the recommendations of the United Nations Security Council, in particular those of resolution 2250 on the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda. As the Democratic Republic of Congo is a signatory to this resolution, it has already started the implementation process by drafting and validating its national action plan, Pan-2250.

Faced with this situation, the New Generation calls on all young Congolese to mobilize and refuse this violation of their rights. They must stand up and make their voices heard, in order to actively participate in the management of power and defend their legitimate interests. Congolese youth represent enormous potential for the country, and they deserve to be fully involved in building a better future.

The New Generation therefore positions itself as a fervent defender of the rights of young Congolese and intends to continue to fight so that their voice is heard and respected. With determination and commitment, they aspire to create a new generation of honest leaders, ready to contribute actively to the construction of a prosperous and equitable Congo.

In conclusion, the CENI’s decision to organize the election of municipal councilors only in the provincial capitals is strongly criticized by the New Generation. Young Congolese feel excluded and deprived of their legitimate right to participate in the management of public affairs. This platform therefore calls for mobilization and resistance in the face of this violation of their rights, in accordance with international recommendations and the Congolese Constitution.. The New Generation is thus establishing itself as a key player in defending the rights of young Congolese and building a better future for the country
