“The Libyan National Army is conducting a major operation against Chadian armed groups in southern Libya: Regional cooperation to ensure security”

International news highlights a vast military operation carried out by the Libyan National Army led by self-proclaimed Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. Since last Friday, this operation aims to eradicate Chadian opponents, terrorists and traffickers who are rampant in the border area between Libya, Chad, Sudan and Niger.

The main objective of this operation is to chase the Chadian armed factions from southern Libya, because several Chadian armed groups are using this border area as a rear base to attack power in Chad. The LNA says that this initiative aims to prevent factions or armed groups from using Libyan territory to launch offensives against neighboring countries.

The military operation is coordinated with the Chadian authorities, in order to guarantee maximum effectiveness in the fight against these cross-border armed groups. It has been taking place for six days in southern Libya, notably in the oasis of Oumm al Araneb where 2,000 homes unfinished since 2011, occupied by families of Chadian fighters or by traffickers, have been emptied. The occupants were deported to Chad under escort. At the same time, airstrikes were carried out near the border with Chad, targeting the positions of Chadian opponents. These strikes have already borne fruit since the former leader of the Chadian movement, Rachid Mohammad Taher, was killed during one of these attacks.

In addition to the airstrikes, hundreds of armed ground forces vehicles were deployed in the area. Under the direction of General Saddam Haftar, these troops have the mission of cleaning the Libyan south of armed gangs. According to General al Obeidi, this operation is being carried out in coordination with the Chadian authorities, thus testifying to the common commitment of the two countries in the fight against these rebel groups.

It is important to emphasize that this military operation has a direct impact on the security and stability of the region. By eliminating Chadian armed factions, terrorists and traffickers, Libya and Chad seek to create a more secure environment and prevent cross-border attacks. This cooperation between the two neighboring countries is a remarkable example of regional solidarity in the fight against non-State armed groups.

In conclusion, the military operation led by the Libyan National Army in southern Libya is a firm response to Chadian armed groups, terrorists and traffickers active in the region. Coordination with the Chadian authorities demonstrates the common will to put an end to these harmful activities which threaten the stability of the region. By eliminating these threats, Libya and Chad are committed to preserving peace and security in the region
