“Stop misinformation: the truth about the incident with Augustin Matata Ponyo Mapon at N’Djili airport”

Stop false information! On Saturday, June 17, 2023, wild rumors circulated on social networks claiming that the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) had prevented Senator Augustin Matata Ponyo Mapon from traveling. However, this information was false and was denied by the Director General of the DGM, Roland Kashwantale, on Radio Top Congo FM.

In an official statement, the DGM specified that the Senator had not submitted his identity documents during boarding formalities for CAA flight No. BU1251, scheduled for Sunday, June 18 to Bunia in Ituri. Indeed, on Saturday, there was no CAA flight to Bunia, and Matata showed up late for boarding, an unusual practice for him.

One wonders if this behavior was used to create buzz or to gauge the immigration services at N’Djili International Airport. However, Matata arrived in Bunia on Sunday June 18 where he was welcomed by the town’s mayor. He had planned to meet victims of atrocities committed by armed groups in the region.

It is important to emphasize the importance of verifying information before sharing it to avoid the spread of fake news and rumours. The truth always catches up with the liars
