Title: Matata Ponyo exchanges with the people of Bunia on peace and security
Augustin Matata, former Prime Minister of the DRC, arrived in Bunia, capital of Ituri province, for a visit intended to address security and economic issues. Senator Matata Ponyo exchanged with local residents on peace and security, especially regarding the stability of the exchange rate.
Matata had accused the Presidency of the Republic and the services of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) of having prevented him from making the trip to Ituri the day before.
Matata’s visit was well received in this region of the DRC, which has been the victim of inter-communal violence for years, and which has seen a massacre of more than forty people in the Lala displaced persons site in mid-June, attributed to the militiamen of the Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO).
The Congolese government is mobilized to counter this violence, and is also tackling the difficulties of creating a business, in order to facilitate investment in the country.
At the same time, the beginnings of the electoral campaign are approaching, and the country is preparing for the next legislative elections, with the formation of new political groups, and the ambitious objective of the UNC to bring together 150 national deputies thanks to the mobilization of his militant youth.
The DRC is also affected by population movements, floods, and deadly accidents, with the tragic sinking of the Tanganyika tug boat.
In short, the political and social situation in the DRC is complex, with progress and challenges to be met to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for the country.
