The presidential election in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is progressing step by step, but some problems continue to arise. Didier Manara, the Vice-President of the Central Electoral Center of the DRC, recently declared that the electoral process was proceeding normally, despite the difficulties related to the training of agents and the candidacies in the reception offices. However, problems with voter cards cannot be ignored.
Indeed, in recent months, some citizens have experienced problems with their voter cards, in particular with the erasure of photos and writings. Fortunately, the CENI (Independent National Electoral Commission) sent experts to South Korea to find a solution to this problem. The South Korean manufacturer of the machines has decided to provide duplicates to replace illegible voter cards.
The effectiveness of the CENI in this regard was praised by Didier Manara, who also underlined the importance of citizen participation in the electoral process. He congratulated the population of Goma for having obtained its 5 seats at the level of the national deputation. This success is the result of the hard work of the Provincial Executive Secretary and her teams.
Despite the challenges and obstacles, the political situation in the DRC remains tense. The terrorist attacks in Uganda have had repercussions in the DRC, and the return of Joseph Kabila to the political scene has sparked controversy. There are also security issues in some areas, such as Beni, where urban crime has increased.
The Democratic Republic of Congo still has to overcome many obstacles to achieve true political and security stability. However, thanks to the mobilization of all stakeholders, the DRC has every chance of successfully transitioning to a more peaceful and prosperous future.
