The news in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been in turmoil for several weeks. Indeed, following President Tshisekedi’s call for general mobilization against the Rwandan-backed M23 militia, thousands of young people joined the army. However, there are many reports of unsuitable treatment for their recruitment promise.
The lack of resources to support these young soldiers casts doubt on the state’s ability to provide acceptable conditions for these recruits. The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo spoke on Friday June 16 on the issue, saying that the young soldiers will be arrested and sent to the Auditor General of the FARDC.
Faced with this alarming observation, President Tshisekedi had nevertheless promised to take care of the families of the soldiers as well as their basic needs. But today, the reality casts doubt on the application of this promise.
Despite this worrying situation, there are also positive events that deserve to be highlighted, such as the success of Iob SARL, a civil engineering company that is today a benchmark in mining subcontracting in the DRC. or the preservation of the environment in the world of mining through the example of Kibali Gold Mining.
In addition, regarding sport, the leopards of the DRC dominated in their last match against the Gabonese and are getting closer to qualifying for the African Cup of Nations in 2024.
In short, the news in the Democratic Republic of Congo is contrasted, between negative events which cause concern and positive initiatives which testify to the hope of a better future for this country rich in resources and potential.
