“193 militiamen abandoned in a transit camp in the DRC: a precarious situation alerts civil society”

The precariousness of the living conditions of the elements of the militias who went since last March to the Kasoko camp in the chiefdom of the Babila Babombi is currently alerted by the Coordination of the new Congolese civil society (NSCC) territorial branch of Mambasa. This information was transmitted to POLITICO.CD by John vuleveryo musombolwa, coordinator of this citizen structure in the region.

193 militiamen from various local armed groups are currently in this transit camp without government support through the disarmament, demobilization, community recovery and stabilization program (P-DDRCS). In a letter addressed to the coordinator of this program, John vuleveryo musombolwa invited the establishment of another disarmament site in this territory full of militias, because he believes that following their abandonment, the population pays the price through the harassment established by these militiamen. He added that more than 900 other fighters are ready to join this camp, however regretting the bad faith of the Congolese government.

Since the launch of P-DDRCS in Ituri, at least a hundred elements of the militias, especially those of the patriotic integrationist force of Congo (FPIC) and a wrist of the cooperative for the development of Congo (CODECO), have already returned to the pilot site of Diango located in the territory of Irumu.

This situation once again highlights the difficulties of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in managing its territory and the conflicts associated with it.
