“International Mission to Fight Gangs in Haiti and Restore Security”

News: An international assessment mission in Haiti to fight against gangs and restore security

An assessment mission made up of representatives from Kenya and other international countries arrived in Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti, to discuss the deployment of a multinational force to fight against gangs and restore security in the country. This mission was set up following Kenya’s proposal to lead an international force in Haiti. Representatives of the mission met with Haitian government authorities, the High Council of the Transition and the diplomatic corps.

The presence of this Kenyan delegation is received with mixed feelings by the Haitian population. Some see it as a ray of hope to end the gang violence that is rampant in several neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince and in the Artibonite department. Others remain skeptical about the effectiveness of a multinational force to resolve the security crisis in Haiti.

Despite some areas where the situation has calmed down slightly, the Haiti National Police recognizes the extent of the terror caused by the gangs. Operations are underway to counter their actions and strengthen the operational capacity of the police. Law enforcement also stepped up efforts to dismantle the gangs and mobilize their entire workforce.

Before leaving Haiti, the assessment mission plans to meet again with the senior staff of the national police and Prime Minister Ariel Henry. The objective is to discuss the measures to be put in place to fight against gangs and restore security in the country.

The security situation in Haiti is critical, with an upsurge in violence perpetrated by gangs, which directly affects the population. This international assessment mission represents an opportunity to find concrete solutions to this crisis. Whether through the deployment of a multinational force or other measures, the main objective is to protect the Haitian population and restore a climate of security and stability in the country.

The fight against gangs and the restoration of security in Haiti require a comprehensive and coordinated approach. The efforts of the Haitian authorities, supported by a multinational force, could effectively combat gang violence and guarantee the safety of citizens. Let’s hope that this assessment mission will lead to concrete and lasting actions to put an end to this situation of insecurity and terror that affects the Haitian population
