Through several years of collaboration, China and the DRC have strengthened their cooperation with the aim of working together for the well-being of their respective peoples. Sino-Congolaise des Mines (SICOMINES), the pillar of this collaboration, is a mining institution that wishes to contribute to improving the living conditions of local populations. Indeed, it is committed to respecting its commitments in terms of social responsibility and has implemented several projects in the local communities impacted by its activities, such as the construction of a technical school in Kapata, the agricultural mechanization project or the support project for maize producers.
SICOMINES has succeeded in providing drinking water to several local communities thanks to the construction of several boreholes. In places such as Kaya 1, Machini, Biwaya, Mapendo and Mutaka, residents were forced to make do with an unreliable water well. The installation of these wells by SICOMINES has enabled local populations to have access to drinking water, which has considerably changed their daily lives.
This work done in less than two years since the signing of the specifications has enabled Sino-Congolaise des Mines to show its commitment to comply with the revised Mining Code of 2018 and to assume its social responsibility. This collaboration also illustrates the importance for Chinese companies to respect the laws in force in the DRC and to assume their social responsibility.
This initiative is further proof of the joint will of China and the DRC to work together to improve the living conditions of their respective populations. Projects such as those implemented by SICOMINES demonstrate that companies can play an important role in improving the living conditions of local populations.
