Kisangani has been hosting since Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the FARDC Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant-General Christian Tshiwewe. This visit is part of a mission of command and control of FARDC units in the provinces. It will allow Lieutenant-General Christian Tshiwewe to inquire about the general situation prevailing in the third defense zone, which includes the provinces of Tshopo, Bas-Uele, Haut-Uele, Maniema, North and South Kivu as well as Ituri.
The main purpose of this mission is to visit the recruits at the Lukusa and Bahuma training center this Thursday, June 15, 2023. This, in order to ensure that the FARDC units are well trained to ensure security in this part of the Republic Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Upon his arrival, the FARDC Chief of General Staff was welcomed by the commander of the 3rd defense zone and that of the 31st military region of Kisangani, as well as officers and non-commissioned officers in place. He then met with the provincial authority, Ms. Madeleine Nikomba, for a presentation of courtesies.
Lt. Dexter Nzuzi Kienda, FARDC communicator, said that this mission is part of a comprehensive approach by the DRC to ensure the safety of citizens. This initiative shows the will of the FARDC to work in close collaboration with local authorities and civil society to deal with security issues and meet the challenges of instability in the Tshopo region.
This visit is therefore one more step for the stabilization of the eastern regions of the DRC and will allow the troops to acquire new skills to face the security challenges of the region.
