News – Closing of the round table on the state of siege in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri
The Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, officially closed the work of the Round Table on the state of siege in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri. These meetings, which lasted three days, brought together participants from different institutions, provinces of the country, as well as the military governors of the two provinces concerned. The objective of this Round Table was to analyze the options relating to the lifting, the requalification or the maintenance of the state of siege in these regions.
Three commissions have been formed to study the issue in detail. Each of them formulated recommendations which were recorded in a report intended for the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. The Prime Minister underlined the importance of this quality work carried out by the participants, and promised to transmit the final report to the President.
Since his accession to the Presidency, the Head of State has made resolving the crisis in the eastern part of the country his priority. The state of siege was declared in May 2021, with the aim of combating the aggression of which the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been the victim for decades, in particular from Rwanda, as well as the insecurity caused by the groups armed. President Tshisekedi wishes to restore hope to the population of these regions by seeking a lasting solution.
The convening of this Round Table marks an important step in this process. The recommendations made will allow the President of the Republic to make an informed decision on the lifting, maintenance or requalification of the state of siege. This decision will have significant consequences for the security and stability of the region.
It should be noted that the international community must also play a role in resolving this crisis. So far, his indifference to the aggression suffered by the DRC has had adverse consequences on different aspects of Congolese society.
The Government of the Republic and President Tshisekedi continue to work tirelessly to implement the state of siege measures and to resolve this long-standing crisis. The closing of the Roundtable marks an important step in this process, but there are still many challenges to overcome in order to reach a lasting solution.
In conclusion, the Round Table on the state of siege in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri made it possible to formulate essential recommendations for the decision-making of the President of the Republic. The resolution of this crisis is crucial to guarantee security and stability in the region, and it is necessary to continue to work in collaboration with the international community in order to achieve a lasting solution
