Increase in the number of subscribers of telecommunications companies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2023

During the first quarter of the year 2023, telecommunications companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo recorded a significant increase in the number of subscribers. According to the Mobile Telephony Market Observatory report published by the Post and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Congo (ARPTC), the number of subscriptions fell from 49.8 million to 53.6 million, an increase of 7.69%.

This increase testifies to a high mobile penetration rate in the country, now reaching 56.38%. Mobile phone services have become indispensable for the Congolese population, allowing them to stay connected and communicate easily with their loved ones.

However, despite this increase in the number of subscribers, the ARPTC report reveals a drop in voice traffic and SMS services during this first quarter. Voice traffic saw a drop of 6.13%, while SMS services saw a drop of 0.87%. In addition, the average phone usage time per subscriber also decreased by 12.83%.

On the other hand, mobile Internet traffic experienced a notable increase of 5.7%. This indicates that more and more Congolese are using the Internet to access information, conduct research, communicate via social networks, and even for professional activities.

This evolution in the use of telecommunications services in the DRC highlights the growing importance of connectivity and Internet access in the country. Thus, it is essential for operators to continue to improve and develop their telecommunications infrastructures in order to meet the growing demand of users and to guarantee a quality experience.

In conclusion, the DRC is experiencing a significant increase in the number of subscribers of telecommunications companies, testifying to the growing importance of connectivity and access to the Internet in the country. However, challenges persist, such as declining voice traffic and SMS services. It is therefore essential for operators to remain attentive to the needs of users and to continue to invest in improving their services
