UNFPA launches the 2023 edition of the Henriette Eke media competition for the fight against gender-based violence in the DRC

The fight against gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo is underway. Indeed, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has just launched the 2023 edition of the Henriette Eke media competition. This competition aims to encourage media professionals to produce quality material to raise awareness in the community and decision-makers on population issues.

The theme chosen for this year is “Ending gender-based violence in the DRC”. Journalists working in the fields of the written press, online press, radio and television in the DRC can thus apply until September 30, 2023.

The competition will be sponsored by the Minister of Communication and Media and the jury will be made up of a university professor, an expert from the National Union of the Press in Congo, an expert from the Higher Council of ‘Audiovisual and Communication, as well as an expert from the Ministry of Gender, Family and Children.

The UNFPA Country Representative highlighted gender inequalities and gender-based violence as major obstacles to achieving UNFPA’s vision of achieving zero maternal deaths, zero gender-based violence. gender, including harmful practices, and zero unmet need for family planning. The media are therefore essential partners in achieving these objectives, hence the importance of this competition.

The Rector of IFASIC welcomed the choice of his institute to announce the opening of applications for this edition and called on media professionals to massively subscribe to this competition through their quality productions.

This competition is therefore an important initiative to encourage the production of quality content on population issues and in particular on the fight against gender-based violence in the DRC.
