“New National Coordinator for Universal Health Coverage in the DRC: Strengthening the Congolese health system for an extension of free healthcare”

Universal health coverage in the DRC: Mbungani Kabila Polydor appointed new National Coordinator

Head of State Félix Tshisekedi signed an order appointing a new National Coordinator for Universal Health Coverage in the DRC on Monday, June 12. This is Mbungani Kabila Polydor who replaces Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba, recently appointed Minister of Health.

Universal health coverage (UHC) allows each person to have access to all the quality health services they need, without causing financial hardship. In the DRC, free childbirth is currently effective in twelve pilot provinces, thanks to funding from the World Bank’s Health System Development Project (PDSS).

The appointment of Mbungani Kabila Polydor is therefore part of a dynamic of strengthening the Congolese health system and extending free healthcare to other regions of the country.

However, universal health coverage in the DRC cannot be envisaged without taking into account the persistent problems of insecurity in certain regions where access to care may be hampered. The government must therefore continue its efforts to guarantee access to quality care for all people in the country.
