Martin Fayulu back home: the challenges of the opponent one year from the presidential elections in the DRC

Title: Martin Fayulu back home: the challenges of the opponent one year from the presidential elections in the DRC

Congolese opposition leader Martin Fayulu has returned from a mission to the United States where he sought to solicit pressure from Washington for credible elections in December 2023. The unsuccessful 2018 presidential candidate accuses the Commission Electoral National Independent (CENI) to prepare fraud for the benefit of the Tshisekedi regime.

Fayulu returned at a crucial time for the Congolese opposition, which is planning a big meeting in Ndjili Sainte Thérèse for next weekend. Protesters are demanding a review of the current electoral laws, which they say allowed Tshisekedi to take power in 2018 after disputed elections.

The return of Fayulu held one year before the presidential elections in the DRC, in other words, from now on the opponent must face many challenges to compete with the current president, evaluated by many Congolese at the height of his mission, but also has the electoral commission as well as the ruling party with its strong parliamentary majority.

This return of Fayulu why not be perceived as a major turning point for the Congolese opposition. Let’s wait to see how this will impact the next few months until the elections
