“Demonstrations and political tensions in Kasaï Central: instability in the DRC persists despite positive actions for peace”

Demonstrators from the UDPS/Tshisekedi party took over the headquarters of the Kasai Central provincial assembly in protest against parliamentary controls targeting the provincial ministers of finance and infrastructure. Activists burned tires, set fire to a bus and denounced political maneuvers to remove the governor of the province.

This event shows the fragility of the Congolese political system, subject to numerous internal conflicts. Tensions are heightened by regular protests and acts of violence, such as the shocking images of protesters burning tires in the streets.

The current situation in the DRC is also marked by a health and humanitarian crisis, which hampers the possibility of ending these political conflicts. On the other hand, the presence of armed groups like the M23 still threatens peace in the eastern areas of the country.

However, some civil society actors are engaged in positive actions to promote peace and development. The cultural group Kipfumu Bwenge Muisha performed recently to promote peace and social cohesion on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the independence of the DRC. Similarly, the ARSP association works to promote the Congolese middle class and the development of SMEs.

For the political situation in the DRC to improve, it is necessary to continue to support this type of positive initiatives, while strengthening efforts to resolve conflicts and improve the living conditions of the population.
