The trial of Salomon Kalonda, special and political adviser to Moise Katumbi, opens this week before the Kinshasa/Gombe military court. This announcement was made by the defense of the opponent close to Katumbi. Charges against Kalonda include treason in time of war, incitement of a soldier to commit acts contrary to duty or discipline, as well as breach of National Defense secrecy.
This trial follows his arrest on May 30 at Ndjili airport and his transfer to Ndolo military prison after being detained at Military Intelligence.
The charges against Kalonda are serious, mentioning among other things the illegal possession of firearms, contacts with the M23 rebellion and Rwandan officials with the aim of overthrowing the regime in place in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This trial is of capital importance for the country, as political tensions are high and elections are approaching. It sheds light on the political disputes and rivalries that run through the Congolese political scene. It will therefore be interesting to follow the developments of this trial and to see what the outcome will be for Salomon Kalonda
