“Fabrice Mumpfiritsa: Hunde music, vector of union to celebrate the independence of the DRC”

Music, vector of union and peace? Fabrice Mumpfiritsa seems to have risen to the challenge brilliantly, bringing together different Congolese communities around his Hunde music. The traditional-modern musician artist evolving in the East of the DRC will perform in Goma on June 25, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the country’s independence. Accompanied by his cultural group Kipfumu Bwenge Muisha, he will offer a mega concert to all music lovers, for messages of peace and union.

The year 2023 promises to be eventful for Congolese music. Indeed, the holding of FESPAM 2023, a major event of pan-African music, is planned in Brazzaville. The preparation of this event is already mobilizing the authorities and offers great prospects for Congolese artists. However, while music is a source of hope and unity, other areas of public life are struggling.

The dispute between the territorial administrator and the security commission of Pweto, in the province of Haut-Katanga, would be against a backdrop of economic and environmental issues. At the same time, the stagnation of electoral reform in the DRC continues to provoke reactions. FCC senators, for example, left the plenary in protest against voter registration. The SADC exploratory mission in the DRC opens up a new field of reflection on the challenges of the December 2023 legislative election.

However, the situation should not overshadow citizen initiatives and the commitment of Congolese civil society. Hortense Kavuo Maliro, candidate for the presidency, was able to carry high the colors of a DRC in search of true democracy and more balanced political representation. Two Congolese students also won the national final of the OHADA international competition, offering a great showcase for Congolese youth and their potential.

Despite the difficulties, the DRC continues to show an impregnable vitality. It remains to be hoped that the upcoming deadlines will bring more stability and that the challenges will be met with ever greater resilience and unity.
