UNFPA intensifies its actions in favor of displaced people in eastern DRC
UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) recently announced that it has stepped up its operations to help more than 5 million displaced people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This intervention is part of the UN system-wide program to support conflict-affected populations in the region.
According to Kenneth Ehouzou, Deputy Representative of UNFPA, the situation of displaced people in North Kivu is worrying. This is why the organization has deployed an emergency team on the ground and identified midwives to assist displaced women during childbirth. UNFPA also works to promote women’s access to information on family planning and to strengthen social cohesion among young people.
This one-year program has a budget of $38 million. It aims in particular to strengthen sexual and reproductive health services, as well as to protect women and girls against gender-based violence. This is an essential action in a difficult context where these populations are particularly vulnerable.
UNFPA is aware of the urgent need to act and is working closely with other UN agencies to provide concrete assistance to the displaced in eastern DRC. Through these actions, the organization hopes to contribute to improving the living conditions of the populations affected by the conflict and to offer them hope for reconstruction and peace.
In conclusion, UNFPA’s commitment to the displaced in eastern DRC is a concrete example of humanitarian action aimed at supporting the most vulnerable populations. Through its intervention, the organization contributes to protecting the rights and sexual and reproductive health of women and girls, and thus participates in building a better future for these populations affected by the conflict
