News: Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi appeals to marginalized people to join the disarmament and reintegration operation
In a context marked by persistent insecurity in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi opened a round table to assess the situation of the state of siege in force for two years and three months. The objective of this meeting is to propose solutions to put an end to the insecurity which has disturbed the daily life of the populations of these regions for several decades.
President Tshisekedi underlined that the current state of siege is not intended to be permanent, but that it is necessary to counter the enemies of peace. However, he called on all those who disturb the serenity of the country to seize this opportunity for a peaceful exit by joining the program of disarmament, demobilization, community recovery and stabilization. He insisted that the government is ready to offer this last chance of reintegration into society for those who agree to lay down their arms and work for peace.
During the round table, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde recalled the many assessment missions carried out in the provinces affected by the state of siege. National deputies, notables, leaders, institutions and civil society actors also take part in these exchanges. It is important to be aware of the real situation and the impact of insecurity on the survival of the nation as a whole.
The de-escalation of insecurity in these regions is essential to allow socio-economic development and the return to normal life for the populations. The Congolese authorities are determined to put an end to this situation which has for too long hampered the progress of the nation.
In conclusion, President Tshisekedi’s call for the marginalized to join the disarmament and reintegration operation is an important step towards peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is now up to everyone to take stock of the situation and actively contribute to building a better future for all
