Revelation and clarification: the secret agreement between the president of the Provincial Assembly and the governor of Kinshasa, a simple gesture of peace

Kinshasa, 11 June 2023 – Following the recent public appearance of the President of the Provincial Assembly of Kinshasa, Godet Mpoyi, with the governor of the city, Gentiny Ngobila, rumors have circulated on social networks and in the media that the two men are said to have entered into a secret agreement to hush up concerns raised by the President of the Provincial Assembly in correspondence addressed to the urban authority.

In an update made last Saturday, the Provincial Assembly wanted to clarify the situation. She clarified that the gesture of public greeting was in no way a manifestation of a secret arrangement or compromise aimed at stifling the concerns raised by the President of the Provincial Assembly. Rather, it was a move to ease recent tensions in public opinion and foster collaboration and constructive dialogue among institutions to safeguard the well-being of the people of Kinshasa.

The Kinshasa Provincial Assembly also denounced unfounded rumors of bribes and illegitimate arrangements. She pointed out that all the concerns raised by Mr. Mpoyi have been duly documented and taken up by the competent committees for investigation and follow-up with the executive. She therefore invited the population not to be influenced by unfounded rumors and to show discernment.

The Assembly would indeed like public opinion to focus its attention on the real issues facing the city of Kinshasa, such as security challenges, transport problems and social imperatives. She thus urged everyone to come together to contribute to the solution of these problems, rather than wasting their time and energy in a sterile controversy.

It should be noted that the Provincial Assembly of Kinshasa is an important institution of the city, in charge of the legislation and the supervision of the actions of the governor of the city. It is composed of 67 members elected by the inhabitants of Kinshasa and chaired by a president elected by his peers.
