“JP Bemba calls for unity and an end to violence in the DRC to restore peace and security”

The recent visit to Goma by the Deputy Prime Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, Jean-Pierre Bemba, and the Chief of the General Staff of the DRC armed forces, aimed to launch an urgent appeal to the groups local armed forces to adhere to the vision of the Supreme Commander of the Army to restore peace in the region. JP Bemba thus called for the unity of the population and the implementation of actions to ensure security and peace throughout the country, while inviting the armed groups to lay down their arms.

This call comes at a time when a new attack by the ADF was recorded in Kasindi, in the Congo ya Sika district where nearly 10 people were killed on the night of Sunday to Monday, June 12. This worrying situation led the Deputy Prime Minister to go there to understand the war situation in North Kivu and to propose solutions to ensure the safety of the populations.

In this period of political turbulence, where the Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing major challenges such as security problems, social injustice, freedom of the press and electoral transparency, the appeal of JP Bemba and the Head of State -major general of the armed forces of the DRC, to put an end to the violence, is a strong gesture. This shows that the authorities are determined to work together to meet the needs of the population and to restore peace and security in the country.

Indeed, in addition to the visit of JP Bemba to Goma, positive initiatives have also been recorded in some provinces of the country. Hortense Maliro, champion of social inclusion, has announced her candidacy for the presidency of the DRC, while in the province of Garamba, the return of white rhinos is a successful conservation initiative.

The European Union, meanwhile, is preparing to observe the elections in the DRC in December 2023 to help ensure the transparency and credibility of the electoral process. The UCP-UNC alliance initiative is also on the way to winning the December 2023 elections in the DRC.

However, there are still some worrying situations, such as the attack by the Codeco militia in a site for displaced people in Ituri which caused the death of 41 people. This kind of situation shows how important it is for the government to act quickly and vigorously to protect populations and guarantee their safety.

In sum, the situation in the DRC has revealed many challenges and the authorities are aware of the need to act to meet the needs of the population. The positive initiatives recorded in some provinces of the country, as well as the appeal by JP Bemba and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, are signs of hope for the future of the country.
