“Elections in the DRC: A political party presents 196 female candidates, a major step forward for the representation of women in politics!”

Legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are fast approaching, and political parties are mobilizing to present their candidates. In this context, interesting news emerges: the political party “Alliance pour les actions de développement du Congo” (AADC) registered a total of 196 female candidates for these elections. A real step forward for the representation of women in politics in the country.

According to the deputy general secretary of the AADC, Bertin Masansa Mankemba Kasaka, these 196 candidates position the party among the first eight political groupings in terms of female representation. The objective of the AADC is to win power in elections in order to support Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi.

Among the 478 candidates registered in the party for the national legislative elections, 273 are women. However, some constituencies encountered logistical problems, delaying the payment of application fees and reducing the final number to 196 candidates.

For the provincial elections, the AADC aims to field 375 female candidates out of a total of 716 candidates. An ambitious goal that demonstrates the party’s commitment to the representation of women at all levels of governance.

This situation is encouraging for the DRC, as it demonstrates a growing awareness of the importance of gender equality in politics. The participation of women in political life is indeed essential to ensure an equitable representation of society in its diversity. It also allows the specific needs and concerns of women to be taken into account in the decision-making process.

However, it is important to note that further efforts are still needed to ensure true gender parity in Congolese political life. Fielding more female candidates for legislative elections is a first step, but it must also be ensured that these women have the resources and support necessary to run effective and competitive campaigns.

In conclusion, the alignment of 196 female candidates by the AADC political party in the upcoming legislative elections in the DRC is a significant step forward for the representation of women in politics. However, much remains to be done to achieve true gender parity. Hopefully this serves as inspiration for other political parties and encourages more balanced political participation in the country
