In Mahagi, the civil forces vives announces, in its report of June 11, a new incursion of CODECO. This militia attacked a FARDC position before being repelled. However, seven civilians were killed, including women and children. In addition, the militia burned down four houses. Despite the signing of peace agreements following a dialogue between local armed groups in Aru, this militia has still not ceased to cause mourning in the territories of Mahagi and Djugu, despite the efforts of the provincial government and of its partners for the return of peace. Local sources have reported a massive influx of displaced people to locations they consider safer.
The incessant attacks by the CODECO militia have alarming consequences on the civilian populations in the Mahagi and Djugu region. The efforts of the provincial government and its partners are not enough to put an end to these repetitive clashes which constitute a major handicap for the return of peace.
