“The record participation of Congolese women in the legislative elections demonstrates a major step towards gender equality in politics”

Women are becoming increasingly important in the political landscape of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, during the next legislative elections, the political party “Alliance for the actions of development of Congo” (AADC) registered a record number of 196 candidates for the national deputy.

This massive participation of women in the electoral process bears witness to the growing involvement of Congolese women in the political life of the country. The AADC, led by Mrs. Adèle Kabena Muauka, is one of the first eight political groups that have aligned a large number of female candidates throughout the national territory.

According to the deputy secretary general in charge of political and ideological issues and permanent moderator of the AADC, Bertin Masansa Mankemba Kasaka, this desire to include more women in politics aims to support Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi in his development actions.

Of the 478 candidates initially registered for the national legislative elections, 273 were women. Unfortunately, some constituencies have encountered problems with delays in presenting proof of payment, which has reduced the number of candidates to 196. However, Bertin Masansa promises that at the provincial level, 375 women will be lined up among the 716 candidates planned.

This growing representation of women in the Congolese political sphere is a positive development that testifies to the growing awareness of the importance of gender equality and the need to give women the opportunity to engage and make their voices heard. voice in decisions that affect them.

It is a step towards equity and diversity within the Congolese political class, and it contributes to strengthening the country’s democracy. Encouraging women’s political participation is essential to building a more balanced and inclusive society, where men and women have equal opportunities to contribute to the country’s development.

It is important to highlight the key role that women play in Congolese politics and to recognize their efforts to make their voices heard and defend their rights. The next legislative elections will be an opportunity to see whether this commitment and this increased representation of women will translate into a greater presence of women in the Congolese National Assembly.

It is essential to continue to support and encourage Congolese women to take part in political life, offering them equal opportunities and creating an environment conducive to their development
