The Mzee Laurent Désiré Kabila Foundation, created in 2001 in tribute to the 3rd President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been the victim of recurrent and violent attacks. On the night of June 1 to June 2, 2023, individuals suspected of being security agents and a military commando stormed the offices of the Foundation, located in the Commune of Gombe.
These individuals smuggled, illegally and violently into Foundation premises, breaking down doors and searching various offices. This is the second time the Foundation’s offices have been the target of such attacks, the first time being on July 9, 2022. The Foundation’s Assistant Commissioner of Custody was abducted on this occasion.
The President of the Foundation, Jaynet Kabila, has officially lodged a complaint with the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo for these facts. Unfortunately, no investigation has been launched so far.
The Foundation condemns these barbaric and criminal acts which violate the rights guaranteed by the country’s Constitution. She recalls that Mzee Laurent Désiré Kabila devoted his life to the fight against the dictatorial system to put the Democratic Republic of Congo back on the track of democracy and Sovereignty through the Pardon Revolution.
These repeated attacks are a threat to the memory of the one that the Foundation considers a national heritage and underline the need to strengthen security in the country.
