While tension is at its height in Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), accusations are being made against the leaders of the small territorial area newly appointed by the Head of State. The most recent accusation comes from the commander of the Congolese National Police (PNC), Commissioner Superior Principal Kahuma Sébastien. According to him, the animators appointed to manage the state of siege in Beni would be involved in the insecurity which reigns in the city.
These accusations provoked virulent reactions from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), which describes these remarks as “irresponsible and too much”. Bernard Kambale, spokesperson for this political party and member of the newly appointed animators, maintains that these accusations are only alibis to escape responsibility. He also denounces the lack of competence and the incompetence of the authorities appointed to manage the state of siege.
The crisis continues as authorities pass the buck. The UDPS asks the PNC commander to present evidence to support its accusations, while supporting the government in its search for peace.
This tense situation highlights the fragility of security in the Beni region and the need to find solutions to stabilize the situation. Recent developments bear witness to the precarious security situation in the DRC, which continues to suffer from persistent insecurity in certain regions.
In this context, the DRC has launched a new agricultural program in partnership with DEM and Bio Agro Business to stimulate the agricultural sector and support the economy. The DRC has also taken a crucial step towards issuing national identity cards and launched the second wave of biometric identification of state agents in Kinshasa.
Beyond these measures, it is crucial to find solutions to put an end to insecurity in the Beni region. Kidnappings, armed attacks and the paralysis of education are all harmful consequences of insecurity. It is imperative that the authorities of the DRC work together to find solutions to this critical situation
