“Leopards Tennis ladies of the DRC participate for the first time in the Billie Jean King Cup / Group 4: Back on their honorable course”

Meeting between the Ladies Tennis Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and their Ethiopian counterparts for the qualifying rounds of the Billie Jean King Cup/Group 4. The Congolese unfortunately lost the competition with a final score of 2-1 in favor of Ethiopia. The Congolese Fauves, however, managed to win a game thanks to Nancy Onia, who allowed to equalize with a victory everywhere after the defeat of Charlène Wantona. In doubles, the pair Marie Bosmans and Charlène Wantona fell short against the Ethiopian team, who deserved their victory.

For their first participation, the Ladies Tennis Leopards obtained an honorable sixth place out of eleven participating nations. This performance is all the more remarkable as the team did not benefit from the championship of the public authorities. The federal committee, headed by engineer Georges Koshi Gimeya, however, did everything to allow the selection to take part in this competition, just like the previous year for the boys in Rwanda.

The Congolese players did their best to represent their country. The competition is a real challenge for them, and their participation is already a victory in itself. This first participation is an encouragement for future teams that will take part in the competition.
