“Human trafficking in the DRC: a young man arrested in possession of five children intended to be sold”

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the situation of persistent insecurity led to the arrest of a young man suspected of being a thief and trafficker in human beings. Authorities said the 18-year-old was arrested in possession of five children he stole from Kikwit, a town in Kwilu province.

The man intended to drive these children aged 5 to 8 to Angola, where he would probably have sold their servitude. Fortunately, he was arrested before continuing his action. He admitted to working for some time in human trafficking. The children were released and will be returned to their respective families.

This tragic story highlights the danger of human trafficking in this region of the DRC. Over the years, this practice has taken on a worrying scale in this town of Kikwit, leading to reports of the search for lost children on the airwaves of community radios.

Parents are therefore urged to be vigilant with their children. Although the authorities have taken steps to stem this problem, the situation remains difficult. Further measures are needed to effectively combat human trafficking and protect the most vulnerable in society
